Green innovation through responsibility

Thinking of … and acting for the environment!

Since conserving our environment has always been of importance in the corporate philosophy of RIKA, we continuously develop our technologies towards economy and emission reduction. This is the only way we can meet the challenges of our time and offer our customers advanced products. We are only ever satisfied with the very best: all RIKA wood-burning and pellet stoves exceed the very high requirements on environmental compatibility and are already well below the fine particle and CO levels demanded by legislature with the result that they can also be operated without restriction in the future.

The environmental commitment is not only lived out at RIKA, it is also actively conveyed to the outside world. The Green Innovation seal represents RIKA’s voluntary undertaking in the sense of sustainability to observe all the requirements and certification according to the most stringent international guidelines:

  • German Federal Emission Protection Ordinance
    • The Federal Emission Protection Ordinance (BImSchV) in Germany has been amended. New requirements are intended e.g. to restrict fine particle emissions and achieve climate protection goals. This also applies to wood-burning stoves. High-technology wood-burning and pellet stoves support these aims. Inferior quality systems may no longer be set up or operated after the specified deadlines. Observance of the limits is to be implemented in 2 stages:

1st stage: from commencement of the CO Ordinance: 2,000 mg/m³ dust: 75 mg/m³,
      2nd stage: commencing 1st January 2015 CO: 1,250 mg/m³ dust: 40 mg/m³.

Systems that observe neither Stage 1 nor 2 must be retrofitted with filters or other measures or taken out of service.  However, stoves that fulfil Stage 1 and were set up before stage 2 came into effect have unrestricted provision to safeguard existing standards and do not have to be retrofitted.

All RIKA models already conform to the rigorous BImSch Ordinances of 2nd Stage of 2015!

  • DIBt Approval Germany
  • HKI Germany
    • The HKI Industrieverband Haus-, Heiz und Küchentechnik e.V. represents the interests of manufacturers of commercial kitchen appliances as well as domestic heating and cooking appliances. As a wood-burning and pellet stove manufacturer, RIKA is one of the some 174 members of the association.

One focus of the association is the technical field. In particular the close cooperation with the Standards Committee for Heaters, Cooking and Heating Appliances in the DIN enables the HKI to include the interests of German industry in the standardisation process and to provide expert advice on standards and certification.

As a leader in innovation in wood-burning and pellet stoves, RIKA strives to promote dialogue and mutual exchange of information within the industry and is thus actively involved in the HKI as a member.

  • Austrian Environment Mark
  • Austrian BVG §15a Guideline
    • § 15a B-VG Ordinance regulates the placing on the market and the testing of firing systems in Austria. The BVG §15a Guideline is one of the most stringent guidelines in Europe. All RIKA wood-burning and pellet stoves fulfil the requirements of the BVG §15a Guideline.

  • Air Purity Ordinance Switzerland
    • The Air Purity Ordinance (LRV) in Switzerland has been amended. The Swiss Federal Council passed a resolution to amend and tighten the Air Purity Ordinance (LRV) of 1985. This is intended in 2 stages. 1st stage: commencing 1st January 2008 CO: 1,500 mg/m³ dust: 100 mg/m³ 2nd stage: commencing 1st January 2011 CO: 1,500 mg/m³ dust: 75 mg/m³.

All RIKA models fulfil the requirements of both Stage 1 and Stage 2!

  • VHI + VKF
    • The majority of our stoves comply with the fire regulations stipulated by the Vereinigung Kantonaler Feuerversicherungen (VKF) (Cantonal Fire Insurance Association), which is the service and competence centre of cantonal building insurance companies for all activities associated with prevention on a national and international scale. The VKF is responsible for the coordination and standardisation of fire safety in Switzerland and its harmonisation with the EU.
